The first Frontier Internet Service Provider in the US will offer internet service to its customers for the first time this week, with the first customer to get the service now.
Frontier says it is the first of its kind in the country.
Frontier is offering gigabit speeds for the price of a gigabyte for its customers, who pay a monthly fee of $70.
Frontier’s customers can choose between 100 gigabit or 500 gigabit service.
Frontier has been providing gigabit internet since late 2016.
Frontier CEO and President Tom Vergara said Frontier has the largest customer base in the world.
“We’re excited to announce Frontier’s first gigabit network,” he said in a statement.
“The new Frontier Network is the largest internet service in the U.S. and the most affordable, offering our customers the choice of a wide range of internet speeds from gigabit to 1,000 megabits per second.
Frontier will be offering customers unlimited internet speeds for one year.”
Frontier’s announcement comes as the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is considering whether to roll out a new set of rules that would regulate broadband providers as common carriers.
“Our industry has been doing well in the past few years, and we know that broadband remains a key part of our future growth,” Vergarsay said.
“As the FCC considers the future of broadband, Frontier’s network offers customers an opportunity to keep up with the times, and will provide faster and more reliable internet speeds than we can currently offer.”
Frontier has also recently opened a pilot program with the federal government in Texas.
Frontier announced in June that it had signed a memorandum of understanding with the Texas Department of Transportation to offer gigabit Internet service to the state.
Frontier said the deal will help the company expand its network in Texas, as well as other states where Frontier has plans to offer internet.
Frontier plans to add more cities in the coming months, including Houston and Dallas, as it expands its footprint.
